Laura Winslow Photography

I started this blog back in May and I  have loved doing it so much. I have found tons of fabulous moms out there creating these amazing fashions for kids. But I noticed that these designers have to have good photos to show the details and bright colors of their fashions. So they need a good photographer...and I have found that a lot of them go to Laura Winslow.

Oh how I wish I lived in Arizona so she could photograph my bambinos. This is one talented chica. I have seen Laura's trademark on sites such as Finley & Oliver, Oh! Fiddlesticks, Giddy Up & Grow, Little Wellies, and so many more. Laura has also been featured in BabyTalk magazine, 202 magazine, HGTV.com and other publications. So here is Laura's story:

I am the mother of two amazing children under the age of 3. I love Starbucks, eighties music, techno and every other type of music in between, traveling, speaking Spanish, and reading a good book on a rainy day (not that I have time anymore as a mom!). I love what I do today as a mom and a photographer, but I still miss my students and being a teacher. I went to college in Washington D.C. and was an intern on Capitol Hill and in the State Department- my intended career was to become a Foreign Service Officer. I am an army brat and have moved seventeen times and wouldn't change it for the world. We moved from Louisiana two years ago and lived through Hurricane Katrina. I treasure my friendships and love a good laugh as much as I love heartfelt talks. I am absolutely addicted to taking photographs, and I never want to miss a moment. I see the world as a photograph, and I am constantly thinking how can I make what I see into a work of art. I love trying new ideas and personalizing sessions, and would love to capture your moments and turn them into tangible memories that you will look back on and treasure forever.

Oh and did I mention that Laura is a blogger too! Love her colorful blog, my favorite series she does is Wall Art Wednesday- gives me inspiration for my home and how to display photos.

Giddy Up & Grow- Hair accessories

OH how we love to make our little girls hair pretty. Well this shop certainly helps do that. Robyn has created felt hair clips and headbands that are sure to add that little something extra to any ensemble. Robyn has great detail and unique designs in every piece. Finley & Oliver- modern.classic.whimsical

 

Oh I have been waiting to share this shop with you! and I'm so excited it finally was in this week's line-up of shops for me to blog about :-) If any of you are familiar with the handmade world, then this shop may not be new to you. It seems in the on-line world, most mommies know of this fabulous shop, and you will soon see why. F&O fashions are adorable! Great stuff for the girls and boys, which I love! having one of each, sometimes Peyton gets left out...because well you know there is just so much for girls. But at F&O I have plenty to add in my cart for him.

I wanted my post on F&O to be different, so I did a little Q&A with the shop owner, designer, creator- Grace:

How did Finley & Oliver get started?

After my little guys Finley and Oliver were born, I was completely frustrated at the lack of original and modern clothing for available for them. I’m not a fan of the traditional things you find on tees for little boys. I started appliquéing clothes for them and after some encouragement from friends and family, Finley and Oliver (the clothing line) launched.

How would you describe your design style/aesthetic?

I’m not a fan of busy clothing so I try my best not to “over design” my tees. I like to keep them simple and modern. When I've finished a new tee, I always get opinions from Finley and Oliver. If they don’t like them, chances are that other kids won’t either.

What inspires your designs?
I read a lot (books, magazines, articles, etc.) and a lot of my inspiration has come from things that I’ve read. I dreamed up The Circus Collection after I read “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen last summer. The newest collection (a collaboration with Noah and Lilah) came about from my love of adventure, holidays, and the ocean. I also draw inspiration from my boys and the things that they love and are passionate about.

So with that said.... let me show you why I love this shop.......Ta da!

Shops helping Joplin- Oh Fiddlesticks, Finley&Oliver, and Toni Tierney

So this is a little more serious post...but I think you'll appreciate it in the end. We all know about the terrible tornado that tore through Joplin last week, and unfortunately through many more towns this whole tornado season. After Joplin last week, a close co-worker came to me telling me how thankful she was that family in Joplin was safe, although they had lost everything.

Sometimes we hear of these horrible events and they seem so unreal because they are so distant to us not only in geography but in our concept of what nature can do.  When I heard my friends story of her family, it did not seem so distant. I wanted to do something, but what could I do all they way up here in Washington?

So I did what I do best, on-line shop! I love that I have this blog, so I put it to good use. This young Joplin family has 3 little boys, ages 5, 3, and 10weeks.  I can't imagine how I would explain all the loss to my kids. So I contacted the few shops that I knew that created clothing for boys and asked if they would be willing to donate, and of course they stepped up to the plate.

I would like to personally thank these shops for their fabulous donations and generosity. I hope that you will go and support these shops like they have supported a family in need. Thanks for reading...and here are the shops that deserve applause!
